Photographic
Auction
This is one of our most popular
events of the year. The Club auctions off unused and unwanted equipment from
our members, friends, and guests. As every year, we’ll have plenty to give away
at ridiculously low prices. See the article Going,
Going, Gone elsewhere in this issue of the Newsletter for all the details.

Business
Meeting
This is the business meeting at
which we begin our election procedures for next year. (See the article Election Procedures elsewhere in this
issue of the Newsletter for all the
details.) There’s always plenty of excitement in the air, including some
business held over from the previous meeting. We’ll cap it all off with
refreshments and a bit of socializing. Remember, according to our Constitution,
you must attend at least 2 business meetings a year to retain a positive
membership status. How many have you attended so far?

Monthly
Competition
Tonight’s competition is bound
to be exciting. Will you be there to share the experience? Full rules are
available at any meeting. Remember, print and slide entries must be submitted by 6:45 p.m. so that we may get under way with the
competition promptly at 7:00 p.m. PDIs must be
submitted a week prior to the competition. Tonight’s judge is slated to be
Nancy Sirkis. Nancy has shown her work and judged at PWCC in the
past. She also has led our print critique workshops for the last two years—just
ask most of our previous winners. Nancy is a master printer and teaches/taught both
darkroom and Photoshop classes at ICP. She lives and works just uptown in Soho. Please join us for tonight’s competitions.

Theme
Night—Humor
This is your chance to show us
your interpretation of tonight’s theme—Humor. Your images should relate to this
theme, in some way. (How difficult could that be, living in the BIG Apple with
all its characters?) Except for our Bronx members,
perhaps; but there’s no lack of rivers, bays, and oceans there, either.)
Slides, digital projections, or prints are fine. Competition rules are not in
effect. Please limit your presentation to no more than 5 minutes.

Executive
Committee Meeting
Prior to tonight’s meeting the
Club’s officers will meet to discuss matters of interest and importance to the
Club. The meeting will be held at the Soho Photo Gallery at 6:00 p.m.

Vincent Laforet, is a New York City based photographer. Vincent has been published in most major publications
around the world and has been sent on assignment by Vanity Fair, The New York
Times Magazine, National Geographic,

others. A couple of years ago he became the first ‘national contract
photographer’ at the NY Times.
Vincent: has been recognized as one of the “100 Most Influential People in
Photography” (American Photo Magazine);
was named one of the “30 photographers to watch under 30” (PDN); won the “Pulitzer Prize in Feature Photography” for his
post-9/11 coverage. He is also a Canon Explorer of Light, a Canon Printmaster,

Tonight’s curtain raiser will be Club member Madeleine Barbara. Be on time so
you don’t miss a thing.

Field
Trip—Roosevelt Island
New York
City is a
city of islands (except for the Bronx, that is) and one of them—the one with the best
views—lies right between Manhattan and Queens, beneath the 59th Street Bridge. The tour highlights will include: the
tram ride, the Lighthouse, the small pox hospital, the Strecker Laboratory, and
the Octagon Tower (the remains of the Lunatic Asy-lum). We will meet at 1:00 p.m. at the Tram entrance—60th Street and 2nd Ave. Tickets are $2.00 each way
(roundtrip for seniors). Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather (April
showers and all that). Please sign up, don’t be late, call
the leader if you can’t make it after all. Leader: Barbara De Marco,
718-499-1012 or <bdemarco2006@earthlink.net>

Mini
Business Meeting/Mini Workshop
Tonight we will have our third
mini business meeting (it will be shortened to less than an hour). We will deal
only with items of some urgency. The rest of the evening will be devoted to a
short workshop. As usual, we will end the evening with socializing and
refreshments. Remember, the PWCC Constitution requires that all Club members
attend at least two business meetings each year. Time is running out for this
season, so why not make this one of them?
Additional field trips will be announced at Club meetings and via the
yahoo.com e-group.
