ACTIVITIES
Monthly Competition
On the first Monday of each month we hold our members’ photo competition. A
professional photographer is hired to come in and critique the entries—prints,
slides and digital. Ultimately an image of the month will be chosen in each
category.
Guest Presenters
Our guest presenters are professional photographers who come to share and discuss
a portfolio of their work. The variety of subject matter and the different
techniques are fascinating, informative and inspiring.
Portfolio Nights
Some Monday meetings are set aside for members to show their own work. These
programs may focus on an assigned theme. Other times, it’s an opportunity
for members to show their latest photo project.
Workshops
Workshops may include camera, Photoshop, lighting and other techniques of interest
to our members.
We are delighted to offer a new series of workshops entitled Expanding Visions.
Trips
The Club arranges a large variety of trips each year. Some are day
trips in
and around New York City. Travel trips are weekend trips to picturesque places
along the east coast. Twice a year the Club travels further afield for extended
trips of one week or more. We have traveled to the Oregon Coast, Florida,
the deserts of southwestern USA, Maine, the Canadian Rockies, Belize and
Iceland, just to name a few.
Photo Critiques
Photo critiques allow our members to discuss their work with their peers or
with a professional photographer in a small, intimate setting.
Exhibitions and Photo Exchanges
The Club has mounted exhibits in many prestigious venues around the city, including
the United Nations, the Port Authority Terminal, the Federal Building and
the Manhattan Borough President’s Office. In 2010, we exchanged digital images with the Hartlepool Camera Club in Hartlepool, England. This was the second year we shared photos "across the pond." You can view our images from the 2010 exchange here. You can also view our members' photographic
work by clicking the Members Galleries menu.
Social Events
The Club hosts special dinners, a winter holiday party, and a Labor Day BBQ.
